Stoked this shot of Danny Davis ran in the new issue Slash, staight oot of Canada, eh. It was shot in May of 2011 in Aspen/Snowmass while filming with the Brain Farm guys for their new release, "Art of Flight". If you haven't seen it it yet, your probably dead or something, so I don't need to explain too much there. I have to say though, that this is one of, if not my favorite photo from last season. The combination of the tilt-shift, the clouds and Danny's timeless style, it just equals perfection to me. Maybe you think its crap, and that cool, cause there's that one saying, "opinions are like assholes, everyones got one." Anyways, thanks to Oli for running this one! Stoked....

Over the past two summers I've really fallen in love with biking. Something about, its almost like snowboarding in a weird way. We had a pretty epic Indian Summer here in Colorado for most of September and October and got out quite a bit (not to mention all summer too!). I had never really shot much biking and decided with the fall colors in full swing it was time. Here's a few shots from a little afternoon session in late September.

Wolf Creek Opener!

I can't say I'm really ready for winter, but what can you do when it snows 4 feet? Go shred, right? Well I figured that it would be the best thing to do, and I can't remember an earlier opening day at Wolfy, let alone one this good. I was a bit skeptical even to the point of buying my ticket, but by the first turn any skeptisism turned to pure bliss. To top it off, there was hardly any lift lines, and fresh snow was easy to find all day long. I can't remember a more fun opening day in recent history. Without a doubt I've got that winter itch and can't wait for the next big dump.

To the outsider, you might wonder why Minnesota but it truly has become a snowboard destination for both the urban scene but also the private "park sessions", which I've been a part of more and more in recent years.

The first week of June I boogied up to one of the best stretches of rivers in the US and one of the hardest permits to get as well. The Yampa River through Dinosaur National Monument. Thanks Moler for the invite! When I ran this last year at 14K I thought it was big. This year it was over 20K and big would be somewhat of an understatement. At one point I wasn't sure if were were still on the Yampa or if we had somehow landed in the Bering Sea. Everyone had clean runs through all the major rapids, everyone got at least one haircut and only one ankle sucumbed in all the chaos. All in all, you can't start you summer any better than this. We'll see you again next year Yampa!

I set out to Aspen, CO the first week of May before heading out to Superpark to link up with both some of the best cinematographers and shreds in the world. The Brainfarm team, masterminds behind the film "Thats It Thats All" were posted up working on their new film "The Art of Flight" with the likes of Mark McMorris, Seb Toots, Eric Willett, Travis Rice and the Frends Crew, Danny Davis, Luke and Jack Mitrani, Scotty Lago and Kevin Pearce. Mark Landvik was also on hand for entertainment. Well all I can say is this was one one hell of a trip. Things were working out so well I extended my trip an extra day and ended up leaving Superpark two days early to come back. Bode Merrill was selected to accompany me on the trek from Oregon back down to Aspen to join in the last day of action in Aspen. Its insane to not only witness this level of snowboarding but the level that Brainfarm operates on is mad. Hundreds of thousands of dollars at work between cameras, multiple Helicopters, Cine-Trucks, Cine Rangers and an all star squad running around getting it done. Not only was this one of my best trips of the year but one of the most fun. The Frends Crew is in my opinion "the best crew in snowboarding." They have so much fun all the time and are some of the best individuals I know. They are pretty good at snowboarding too. They just have the best outlook not only on life but snowboarding too. They keep it 100% fun. I'm honored to get to hang out with them, and always look forward to next time. Please check out The Frends website here. The most entertaining portion of the site is Frends Vision so be sure to check it out. Anyways, thats about it. Good times in Aspen. So its been a hot minute since I've posted here on the old bolg. Been on the end of the season grid to get last minute shots and build my stack for the mag, potential advertisers and clients alike. Its been an interesting winter and an even more interesting spring. The weather has been a real issue this year. We've had tons and tons of snow but not a lot of sun. Sometimes as few as two days in a single month. This makes things really tough, but all in all it has been a hell of a year, and I'm getting excited for it to start winding down. After Silverton, my last post, I spend a few weeks at home getting caught up on some work for two seperate clients. I then set back out on the road for a quick SLC to Jackson and then back home road trip. The plan was to meet up with a People Crew consisting of co-founder and filmer Pierre Minhondo and riders Aaron Biittner, Lauri Heiskari and Heikki Sorsa for a quick two day mission. I got in late due to, you guessed it, weather, and met the crew just as they were about to hit a jump.....in a blizzard. I think they had just gotten to the point that they couldn't wait any longer. When you wait two weeks because of weather sometimes you gotta just go out an make it happen.

The next day was bluebird and the crew had built the "Hip of Love" a few days back so that was our objective. The 40" of fresh snow that fell the last few days quickly turned to mush as the day progressed and it looked like spring was here. Well perhaps but I'm not holding my breath.

After a sick session, the snow was beat and it was time to move on and try my luck in Jackson, but not before I could say hello to my good friend TJ who is a recent transplant from CO to SLC.

It was like summer in SLC, so why not shotgun some beers!

The next morning it was off to Jackson. The snow report was good and it was looking like it should be well worth the trip. Lonnie Kauk had driven down from Whistler and Mark Carter and Kevin Jones were already in Jackson so it was going to be a sick crew. Upon arriving I found out the snow sucked and that we needed to check another zone the next day. Well, all in all, it ended up sucking. The 40-50" of fresh snowthat had fallen in the previous few days had already crusted over and it was a total bust. Driving the 9 hours back to Breck was mellow compared to Lonnie's 18 hours down from Whistler that he was going to repeat immediately in reverse flow. Nothing worse then going home empty handed. Well almost empty handed...

Shred NW Magazine, Issue #2

Nice little piece on Smiley Creek in the new issue of Shred NW Magazine. This was from a trip I did last year with Smith Optics for a feature in Snowboarder Magazine. Such a fun trip, and I'm bummed I didn't make it back up this year. It has been a annual thing the last few years, so I hate to break a good streak like that. Oh well, there's always next year......

Silverton

Been posted up in Silverton with Dragon for the past week. Pashley, Drago and myself along with Scotty Vagarnold, Zach Siebert and young buck Blake Paul have made up the first crew. The week started off by dumping a nice 24" reset, but now it has gotten very warm. Up high the snow has still been really good though. Its been a really fun and motivated crew, and between cheese wedges, road gaps, Scotty's freestyle folk songs and my cabin zone we have been loggin' some hamms. Pashley panicked back to Encintas for a few days and Scotty and Seibs headed back to Utah yesterday and now it looks like some weather is moving in so the rest of us might head to Breck for a night or two and then its right back for another week of shooting starting Friday. On another note, I bought a tilt shift lens a week or two ago (you may have noticed in recent post) and have really been enjoying it. The problem is trying to not over use it. Right now its all I want to use, but I have been able to show some restraint. I decided to get the 45mm which I really like because its essentially a normal or true lens as far as distortion/perspective. A great lens to throw on the camera and walk around with just that, because if you don't want to use the tilt shift, you pretty much have a 50mm, but have the option to tilt and shift which adds a very cool effect to a somewhat ordinary perspective or scene. Anyways, this is my Silverton basecamp. Not too shabby....

Another mission in the bag. Jackson was a blast as always, shredding The Village, the pass and getting into the backcountry too. Watching T-Bird try to sled was priceless. To his credit, he got it pretty dialed by the end of the week. A quick stop home in Breck to shoot some park stuff and then its off to Silverton with Dragon. Couldn't be happier. T-Bird seen here, calling it a wrap.....

Cooke City is a wrap. After no sun for over a week and only two real shooting days in a twelve day span it all worked out. The whole crew was a bit stressed out and losing motivation quickly as the forecast everyday for the last week was sun, however it was not even close to what could be considered a sunny day. I think it actually snowed over a foot one night and the forecast was calling for clear skies. Stoked though on how everything worked out! I made the fifteen hour drive back to Breck yesterday in one shot and will enjoy the comforts of home for a week before I head out on the next mission. Until then enjoy a snapshot from the road.....

Been posted up in SLC for the past week, shooting with Brisse, Stevens, Cocard, Grenier and Bode. Its been real good times, but I'm aching to actually put a pair of snowboard boots on and maybe even strap in. I believe my next move will be up to Jackson so I might get my wish soon. Meanwhile here in the SLC its been a bit of a sequence fest, and I'm also starting to get the itch to just shoot a real photo. Like one instead of a burst of 30. I usually don't shoot that many sequences but sometimes its the only thing that works, and 99% of whats been being thrown down over the past week has required a sequence. Now enjoy my past week, summed up in just a few photos....

Talk about dedication to get the trick. It took 4 days and 6 snowboards for Brisse to get this trick, and to say Brisse isn't a good snowboarder or Capita's can't hold up would be a great travesty. The fact of the matter is that the impact was so great that in my opinion no snowboard could take what Brisse was putting them through, and most other snowboarders would have given up after the first day. Well not Brisse, and because of his dedication he not only got the trick but made my approx. 30 hours of standing at my perch near the bottom of these stairs worth it. Thanks dude!

Twin Cities, MN

Just before the New Year I made my annual pilgrimage to the cold northern land known as Minnesota or more particular the Twin Cities. I believe this is my 8th year in row making it out here. Wow, to think how time has flown by! Always great to come back here but I have to say things have changed a lot over the years. This place used to be completely bust free. I mean back even a few years ago people didn't even understand what you were doing and you really had to be an asshole to get kicked out of spots. Now it seems like any other city where the bust factor is pretty high. Due to some weather issues, and travel delays I only spend three solid days here and honestly didn't shoot one "real" urban feature. We got kicked out of everything in sight. Thats why private property is the future of snowboarding, both with urban features as well as in the backcountry. Thank god we had the opportunity to go back to to TKI in Cold Spring and Bjorn Leines' private Jib farm because this trip would have been all for nothing with those two spots. Thanks to the Kraemer brothers up at TKI and Bjorn for letting us sesh your backyards. Good times....

After Dew Tour I headed down to Monarch with Drago, Pashley and Pashley's better half, Erin. Pashley popped the big question at the top of the mountain about mid day. It was funny because he told me I could drop in, and that he needed to change is lenses, and that he would meet us at the bottom. I was like, "this is going to be pretty sick you're probably gonna want to follow me" but he persisted that he would meet us at the bottom. Something was up for sure! Haha, sure as shit he proposed. Congrats to Pashley and Erin! It was a fun day of shredding too. No crowds, deep snow and good friends, what more could you ask for? Not much if you ask me....

I'm stoked to have been contributing photos for a solid year or two now, and am always pleased with how things turn out. These guys do a great job at putting together a monthly magazine covering skate, snow, surf, music and Art. I might add that its a free mag. Stoked to see Doran get an interview too. After almost losing his life, its so good to see him back on the shred!!

I'm very pleased to announce my latest cover, SNOWBOARDER Magazine's 2011 Photo Annual. In the photo world this is kind of the cover of all covers. I couldn't be happier right now. This shot was taken in March 2010 at my cabin in Silverton, the Bonnie Belle. Such a stress free, fun trip! We had easily one of the (at least for me) best days of the year shredding, the shooting was epic, and we even got a few noboard laps in on the side. Easily one of the best trips of last season. Thanks to Scotty for hitting this rock that he actually didn't want to hit (Could have been his boot), and thanks to Huggy for finding a nice spot for it in Volume 23!

So a little back story that goes along with this. If you've ever hung out with Scotty Arnold you know its usually filled with non stop laughter, whether its the things spewing out of his mouth or something that he does or maybe even doesn't do. Well on the last night of the trip, he failed to keep an eye on his boots the night before while drying near the wood stove. The room starting getting super smokey...in a bad way, like I had never seen before. Something was up. By the time we found the problem Scotty's boot was toast, literally. The next day he wasn't even sure if he was going to be able to ride. We convinced him a little duct tape should do the trick. So Scotty bagged his foot in a grocery bag, and then pried the deformed boot onto his foot. Fully taped up, he was locked in and ready for the last day of our trip. So glad in the end it all worked out. Would have been such a bummer to have not gotten this shot. I think Scotty will agree.

About eight or nine months ago my friend Teddy Hoffman approached me with an idea of starting a splitboarding website. Well eight or nine months later we are getting really close to launching the site, splitboarder.com. We hope to have it up and running by January 1, 2011. Regardless of that, we have been getting pounded with snow the last two weeks here in Breckenridge. Over 50" in the last week alone. It is shaping up to be a great winter and I have been getting out on the splitboard as much as possible seeking out some early season pow turns. I made two trips out on the Breckenridge Ski Area, one time going to peak 9 and one to peak 10. It was almost too deep both days and it is really helping me get the stoke up for the season. I gotta get my days in early because I'm usually too busy in the winter to actually ride. Well I can't say I don't get some good days or at least runs in, but sometimes my snowboard is mearly transportation to and from a said spot. That is why I love a good early season like the one we are having now. Bring on the snow!

Winter came in with vengence this year. I've been hearing the reports from Cali to Washington to Utah and so on over the past few days of some serious snowfall. Yesterday I headed up to Loveland Basin with Nic Drago, Madison Ellsworth and Mike Casanova to see if the reports were true here in Colorado. About half way up to the Eisenhower Tunnel the snow became nuclear. Its was straight up pounding and it didn't stop all day. It was hard riding the chair at Loveland looking down at all the pristine snow covered slopes that appeared more like February than October. For the limited terrain that was open we found pow slashes, trees to bash, mini airs, and even a few rail features in the early-season park. After double digit laps at Loveland we railed back to Breck because our homie Austin Julik-Heine had alerted us that we was in the process of setting up a jib over a river, and we should come shred and shoot it. It turned out to be a really cool feature and we all ended up walking away with bangers. Sometimes I have a hard time coming around to Winter. It usually hits so early up here in Summit County and I'm always wanting a little bit more summer, or even fall for that matter. After yesterday, I'm 100% stoked and Ready! Bring it on....

For all the time I've been spending on the river lately its pretty cool to have this knowledge. However its like avalanche rescue skills, you hope you never have to use them....

The Dragon's Lair

It was early March and Alex Pashley from Dragon Optics pitched me an idea to do a trip to my cabin in Silverton, The Bonnie Belle Cabin. He said that he was bringing one of his athletes from Australia, Tom Pelly and already had a story lined up for Australian & NZ Snowboarding Magazine. All I had to do was come and shoot it and then write it. Well it seemed like a no brainer to me, and I was there. Along for the ride was of course Pashley, and Scotty Arnold, Zach Siebert, myself and fellow business partner and guide Skylar Holgate. This was by and far one of my best trips of the year. Epic shooting conditions, an unbelievable pow day of soul shredding, and some sick noboarding laps all in the comfort of my own zone and cabin. And did I mention good friends? Not sure how many hours I spent laughing on this trip, mostly at Scotty expense, but it had to be a lot. Anyways peep the article below. Enjoy....

Upper Colorado Float

The last week of September felt more like the last week of July. Maybe this whole global warming thing is for real? Well, I actually, like any person with half a brain know its getting warmer out there. A lot of the time we don't see these "global warming" effects up here at 10,000ft in Breckenridge, or even down at 8,000ft here on this stretch of the Upper Colorado River. However, this summer and fall was unseasonably hot! This was my last float of the season (we'll see about that) and it was September 28th, but it really felt much more like July 28th. I have to say I wasn't complaining too much. We met some great people on the river and camped with them, which you could say is pretty typical. They turned out to be a mix of musicians, construction peeps and the new owners of State Bridge, a live music venue that burned down a few years ago. They are in the midsts of rebuilding it and decided that the nice weather and hard work had earned them a trip out on the river. I couldn't have agreed more. Good times and a great end of the summer. I guess we can bring on the snow now....uhggg. Yeah I'm still not quite ready.....

I swung through Silverton, Colorado and the Bonnie Belle Cabin last week to sip on some whiskey, chop some fire wood, stain the deck and generally clean up and prepare for winter, which is not too far away. It actually has already snowed up there since I left. Preparations are being made to install our new solar system which has been purchased and just needs to be installed. Hopefully we can get it done before the snow really starts to fly. Right now it is looking good though as we are having a great Indian summer here in Colorado with temps into the 70's during the day, and that trend looks to continue. Book your trip today for this winter. Spaces are filling up quickly!!

I got a call a few days ago from fellow Colorado/Florida Photographer Chris Garrison, and he asked if I was willing to do a shoot that he wasn't going to be able to make it back for. I happily accepted the work, and it turned out to be a lot of fun. So thank you Chris, as well as Tina and Jessi from Katrina Active Wear, as well as our two models, Molly and Phoenix. Katrina active wear recently relocated from Arizona to Silverthorne, Colorado, and its always nice to get some local work here in Colorado! Check them out here.

This is an outtake, but I really liked it. What you are seeing is 3 of 4 flashes firing. My main or fill flash wasn't done recycling when I fired this shot, and you are seeing my two side highlighs as well as a very subtle strobe on the backdrop. Thanks again to everyone involved!

10 Mile Traverse

DC and I headed out yesterday afternoon to hit up the Ten Mile Traverse, or at least the shorter but more fun route. A short climb up Ten Mile Peak followed by some pretty intense scrambling over to peak 3 and then some really fun scrambling up to Peak 4, and then back down to the car. We made it out about 15 minutes before we would have needed our headlamps. All in all we couldn't have asked for a better day to be out on the peaks and ridges of Summit County.

So I found a bunch of unprocessed film that I had shot with a Holga Camera, at least thats what I assumed. Well I was right, but what was really cool is the time capsule effect processing 3 to 4 year old film gives you. I think I will do this again soon. Very fun!

En route back to Breckenridge from Silverton there are several different routes to take, and trust me I've taken them all. The easiest and fastest from my experience is to head north on HWY 550 and meet up with I-70 in Clifton or Grand Junction. Worn out and tired this is the route I chose. I've passed through here easily 1000+ times in my 18 years living in Colorado. I've always though that this section of the Book Cliffs is really an amazing zone. I've wanted to stop countless times but usually am on some kind of a time restraint and can't do it. Pulling in around 6pm this day the light was looking really cool and decided I had more than enough time to stop. So I thought I knew how to access the area I wanted to get into and shoot some photos of, but it turns out I was wrong. Non the less, I was able to get to where you see below in the photos. By the time I found the access to where I wanted to go the light was fading and it was time to just keep on truckin home. Until next time, enjoy.....

Pashley, Zac Hale and Zach Siebert swung through town a couple weeks back to visit Woodward and I figured their Colorado Summer experience wouldn't be complete without a trip down the mighty Colorado River. Raduim Hot Springs is a must stop on the trip. Cliff jumping and then warming up in the hot springs afterwards is hard to beat. Pashley snapped this shot of myself.

A fun week of snowboarding, Cobra Dogs, swimming, BBQin, skatin, long nights at Charlie's and a couple of Snack Attacks too. Truly a fun week and I already look forward to next year. The final event was the silent auction for Charity. The pros put their boards and what ever else to entice campers and who ever to bid on their stuff. Bradshaw started what could be considered a somewhat "fishy" charity called the Hell's Anglers (It helps supports fish habit in southern California he claims), and was under the assumption that if he won the auction he could donate to the charity of his choice, The Hell's Anglers. So he put 4 boards, some boots, hoodies, etc on the line and won, however it was the overall winner who got to choose the charity not just the winner of the silent auction. Sorry Bradshaw, maybe next year.

Five Day Float. 80+ Miles. Three Canyons. Two Rivers. One awesome time. Got lucky as some friends of mine had a permit for the Yampa River in Northwest Colorado in Dinosaur National Monument for Memorial Day weekend. This is a one of the most sought after permits in the country rivaling the Grand Canyon and the Main Fork Salmon River. Especially to launch on Memorial Day is one in a million odds. We had great weather, big water and good times with new and old friends alike. Check some photos and enjoy.

Puerta Vallarta y Sayulita, Mexico

Immediately following Superpark I packed my bags and headed south to Mexico for some much needed R&R. My leg had been killing me all week at Superpark due to an injury I sustained snowboarding a few weeks prior. I landed my ass and leg on a stump and nearly broke my femur. Basically I got lucky and ended up with a really sore leg and huge hematoma. Needless to say I was a bit over the snow world and needed some sun and beach time. My girl and I flew into Puerta Vallarta to meet up with Gunson and some other Breck people at Gunson's really, really nice condo overlooking the beach. This was our home for the next few days. The party period of our trip was here. Not the best for my leg, but what can you do. After some long nights, rough mornings and margaritas on the beach, my girl and I headed to the small town of Sayulita, 30 miles north. Sayulita is truly a gem of a place. Very low key and relaxed. A mix of fisherman, surfers and American dirt bags, it has a really cool vibe. We ran into some friends down there but mostly did our own thing. Sleep in, mellow mid day breakfast at the Choco Banana with some cafe con leche and some form of burrito or scrambled Mexican bowl of goodness. Then straight to the beach for some all day sun and beers, and then a late dinner and usually to bed. No, we really didn't party too hard and that was nice. Straight up rest and relaxation! Just what I needed. After 10 long days it was back to Breck, where the weather has actually been decent since arriving home. I look forward to returning to Sayulita in the near future. Such a sick spot. And because I was fairly injured I didn't get to surf. Another reason to return sooner than later. We stayed at Casa Los Arcos in Sayulita and highly recommend it to any one taking a trip down that way. A bit more expensive then some places but well worth the extra dough if you are trying to have a relaxing vacation. If you main objective is to surf and bum around there are much cheaper options, however, this place for the price was legit. WiFi faster than at home, 5 minutes to town and the beach, small kitchen with full fridge, pool, etc. No complaints execpt that I had to leave! Till next time.....

Superpark 14

Its that time of the year again. Yes Superpark. Hard to believe that this event is now 14 years old. And yet it still does not get old. Lago spotted here blasting on the hip. Th features include a slue of step downs, ranging from about 40' to 80'. A 100'+ gap, a tranny pool contraption with hips, jumps over hips and 1/4 pipes to 1/4 pipe linkage, rhythm section, another 80' step up and a 30' 1/4 pipe. Its going to be a good week. I got the call in the middle of my Sims shoot to head down to Silverton to link up with a Roxy/DC all girls crew consisting of Robin Van Gyn, Raewyn Reid and Erin Comstock. Amber Stackhouse was there to film, and Heikki Sorsa came along too for support. Super fun crew! Its been awhile since I've been able to focus on the women's side of snowboarding and I must say I was impressed. It was great to mix it up and I couldn't have asked for a better crew to end my season with. Well, I have Superpark in Mammoth and then thats it for me, but essentially this was my last trip of the year. Time to head back to Summit County, get my edit on, and relax a bit!

I just wrapped up a week long shoot with Sims Snowboards in Crested Butte, CO. This is my third shoot with Collective Licensing out of Denver and easily one of the best. I huge thanks goes out to Marc, Carly, Gabe and Chris (along with the entire team) for taking care of us all week and helping create another successful shoot. Also, a huge thanks to Tom Sims for...well being Tom Sims. Tom is the man, and it never gets old making turns with him and hearing his endless vault of stories from the good old days. Working Outta My Second Home

Yes, even though I don't have a first home I do somehow have a second home. After Idaho I drove straight down to my Cabin to link up with Pashley and his crew of misfits, Scotty Arnold, Zach Siebert, El Doug and Tom Pelly of Australia. Our plan was to spend a week at the Bonnie Bell cabin, compile enough shots for a Feature in "Australia and NZ Snowboarding Magazine", while of course stacking shots for Snowboarder Magazine, my first priority. It was a successful week to say the least. Good times with good friends, and about half way through the week a storm rolled in and dumped over a foot of fresh. It was such a blizzard all we could do was take laps all day. Not a bad "day off" and a real boost for the crew to get the stoke on. Not that anyone was bummed, it was just a nice change of pace to put the cameras away and remember why we all do this thing called snowboarding anyways. It was the best turns of the year for me easily. Hasn't been the best year in that department, but non the less it was some epic riding right out the front door. It was good to finally experience my spot in some really good conditions too. It still blows my mind that this is "my spot". I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Private Property is the future. By the time it was all said and done, no one was ready to leave and Scotty had already assured me that he would come back and live here if I would allow him to. Sorry bud, nice try, get your own damn spot! That was that. Another week of my winter done. Where to go next?

Cool Boarders 2010

Idaho is a wrap. After sessioning one of the bigger jumps I've seen hit in person, our trip into the Idaho BC is done. This jump measured somewhere in the ball park of 80+' in length with a similar or longer drop. I felt that the angle shown here makes the jump look a little bit smaller than that but at the same time it really worked so I went with it. This is Lago's first hit, where after he stopped yelling and screaming in a state of pure excitement he said something to the effect of, "that was the most amazing thing I've ever done.....that was some cool boarders shit." A pretty strong statement consider he just took home the bronze medal in the HP at the Vancouver Olympics a mere month ago. After this he stomped two B/S 360's and we were out. Such a good way to end the trip. A huge thanks to Cory Smith at Smith Optics for putting us up at Smiley Creek Lodge. I will greatly miss the home cooked meals, country hospitality, and general good vibes of this amazing place. Until next time.....

Actually its pronounced Idaho. Made it to the lovely land of potatoes in one piece and am glad to be back in this neck of the woods after not making it up last season. Cory Smith has some big things going in his backyard zone of Smiley Creek, but don't think you can just roll up here. The zone is on private property and without the proper credentials you could get messed up quick! Trespasser's beware!

Made a quick pit stop in the Crested Butte region of Colorado before heading out to Idaho. Otterstrom said he had the inside track to some new zones in the area, and the weather looked good. So we made the call and B-lined it over for a quick one and a half day mission. I have to say it has been a few years since I have been to Crested Butte, and it is as sick or sicker than I remember. Its kinda like a mini Jackson. Also very similar to Aspen, but without all the bullshit. The mountain is for real, and the backcountry is just as for real if not much realer. Not sure that's a word, but it's a dope spot to say the least. Lots of pillows, cliffs, big lines, and even some kicker zones all in the mix. One interesting thing too is the fact that they are really feeling the recession here. No one can find work so everyone is moving out of town. This in turn has made property extremely cheap. I found a 3 bedroom, 3 bath, two car garage condo for $175,000. That is unheard of in Colorado, and on top of it, in a mountain town. I mean that is cheaper than Denver. Makes me wonder if I could pull off living here. Hmmmmm.....

Home Sweet Home

I've been hunkered down at home the last few days wrapping up some work for Vail Resorts. It has been beautiful weather and I have been able to get a lot done just getting out for a few hours each morning. Yesterday was especially early. Up at 5am. The reward was watching the moon set while the sun came up on the Ten Mile Range. Needless to say, the shot I needed came together well with these conditions.
