TNF
I would like to thanks The North Face for a great couple of days of shredding and shooting at Silverton Mountain, CO. I had a blast riding with Mark Carter, Johan Olofsson and the entire crew! We even landed the heli at my cabin for for a quick lunch. Not bad at all. I will now be enjoying a few down days at home before I start a two day shoot for Vail Resorts. Stay tuned....

Found this shot on the old facebook and just had to post it. It brought back so many good memories from the era when, as Willie McMillon would say, "Snowboarding.....It was better when you hated us."

Brain Farm and WY
Going out with the Brain Farm dudes is a crazy experience to say the least. Watching filmer Gabe langlois zip out over a canyon 100' off the ground was pretty intense, let alone the riding of Travis Rice, Mark Carter and Kyle Calncy. But Gabe (along with the entire crew) is a true pro and it didn't even seem to faze him a bit. I can't wait to see the shots he got this day. You know they're gonna be sick!

The twilight Zone...AKA...The yellowstone Club
Legends past, present and future. Carter, Rice, Warren Miller, Justin Timberlake, Scott Schmidt from left to right. Thats what the Yellowstone Club is all about though. Well sorta, but you sure do feel kind of special just hanging around there. I mean the first person we met when we arrived at the "Warren Miller" Lodge at the Yellowstone Club was indeed Warren Miller. It was weird for sure, but so dope at the same time. And talk shit if you want, this man changed the face of "snow sports". Believe me when I say we (the industry as a whole) probably wouldn't be making and basing our winters around making snowboard/ski movies if this man hadn't done what he did for so long. Seriously things would be way different and I have much respect for him. And to have Scott Schmidt guide us around the mountain was a little unreal. I mean he also changed snow sports forever. I mean do you remember the iconic black and yellow North Face suit he was famous for wearing dropping 100' cliffs in back in the early 90's? Straight up amazing, and again much respect. Or maybe it was the insanely meticulous customer service, complimentary what ever you want or whole mountain to yourself mentality of this place. With sick terrain I might ad too. Either way this was probably one of the raddest two and a half days of my life and I will definitely be back sooner than later. If you ever have a chance to, visit this place, DO NOT turn it down. You will forever regret it. Probably the biggest challenge you will face is re-adjusting to normal life after you leave.

Get well soon KP!
I'm not good with words when it comes to situations like these, but I wanted to post this photo of Kevin Pearce from the Copper Pipe earlier this winter. He has one of the best McTwists in the game, and is easily one of the nicest most humble dudes in snowboarding. I....I mean...WE are all pulling for your complete and speedy recovery. Get well soon, and all the best to the Pearce Family...

A Day at Monarch
Yesterday I made a good last minute decision. I headed over to Monarch Ski Area with Pashley, Pashley's better half Erin and Gary Wyman. Having driven past this place hundreds of times and never stopping in, it was nice to finally check it off the "to do" list. We showed up to Bluebird skies, an almost empty parking lot and tons of fresh snow to track up. I have to say this place is pretty darn sweet. From the road you might not think too much of it. Probably what I have been telling myself for years, but man am I glad I finally stopped in. Like Wolf Creek it gets a lot of snow, however I have to say that there are more sustained pitches than Wolf Creek, less flats, the lifts are shorter and therefor you can make many more runs on a better pitch. There was also a lot of varied terrain for popping ollies over trees and rocks, and there was hardly any one else out on the slopes to compete for the freshest of lines with. All in all I had a blast and look forward to making it back down that way soon! A big thanks goes out to Greg Ralph in the Marketing Department for taking very good care of us! Enjoy some pic....
Headed out of Breckenridge early, but hey it's only a two hour drive, so not that earlyFriday, December 11, 2009
Just a few days in paradise....
So, if you read my previous post from Monday I was heading back up to the Bonnie Bell Cabin for a few days of snow, beer, whisky and shredding. Well the shredding didn't really happen as much as I would have liked but that'll come soon enough. The real goal was to test our new snowcat (which passed with flying colors) drink some whiskey, watch the snow fall, and maybe even get some turns in. So stoked on the new cat. Well it was actually built in 1964, but its new to us, and it absolutely kills it, especially since we got it for free. It rallied up the steep road with supplies and about 7 or so people no problem, and it had to break trail, in the dark, in a snow storm. SO STOKED! The next day we ventured out a bit but only to find avalanches everywhere. We managed to kick a few off our self's too. Mostly small slides in the sense that they weren't traveling very far, but some of them sporting 4-5' crowns, so in the same respect, the mountains demanded respect. Finally, by Wednesday the skies cleared, and everyone eventually trickled back to society. Skylar and I decided to stay an extra day to take care of some repairs on the cat as well as the cabin. I managed to take a late afternoon solo tour to make some turns. Its nice to pick a line from your living room, skin to it, and shred down back to your living room. This will never get old. Dusk fell, and more whiskey was consumed. Sleep, then breakfast, and then work on getting Skylar's sled working which had some frozen fuel lines. Even with a nice sunny day, things happen slowly at 12,000 feet. Finally after damn near pulling 1/2 the sled apart, standing it up on its side, shaking it, we got it started. It too was time for us to head back to civilization. Leaving this place is the hardest thing to do. I can't describe what this place means to me. I feel very, very lucky to own such a property. I Can't really describe it, so until next time, enjoy some video and more photos and stay tuned for more.....

The interior has come together at the Bonnie Bell Cabin and we are pretty much ready for business. A few more legal things to take care of, then we'll be offering this lovely shred hut for your renting pleasure. We also got the plumbing in place with a working toilet, gas lines installed for the stove, and beds or futons to sleep about 21 people. As soon as the website is up, I will post the info here. Self Portrait
Nothing artsy or anything, but this was a really fun climb up Father Dyer Peak (northeast route, Class 3) in Breckenridge, CO on August 22, 2009. There's something to be said about just going out on your own and getting out in the wilderness for a couple of hours. I really do enjoy routes like this. Class 3 and 4 routes that is. I hate to hike actually, if it doesn't involve some kind of scrambling I'm not into it at all. Another thing I like is the fact that there are no ropes to slow you down, but at the same time there is usually a lot of exposure and if you fell it would more than likely end in death. And if that were the case, being by yourself, nobody would ever really know just what happened. It keeps you on your toes, and makes you feel alive. A funny story about this particular day was that the second I got to the summit I received a phone call from my good friend DC. When he asked me where I was, I told him on the top of Father Dyer Peak, can you see me, I'm waving my arms? He replied, yes, do you see me? Jokingly I said yes, but of course I didn't. He then tells me that he is on the summit of Helen Mountain (The peak lower center in this photo) and that he indeed can see me. Now do you see me he asked? Laughing now, I said yes. He then proceeded to fly a kite. Pretty random to say the least.

Done Deal
After 7 months of tracking down owners, dealing with lawyers, finding the right partners, funds, blah, blah, blah.....It's ours. We signed the papers for the Bonnie Bell Cabin on Friday and have been working to get it ready for the winter since. What am I talking about you may ask yourself? Well I worked on a story for SNOWBOARDER Magazine about Silverton, Colorado last winter. The story is actually out in the September issue right now so go pick it up! Anyways while working on this story I was told about this cabin that was potentially for sale. After falling in love with the area in which the cabin sits, I knew I had to make it happen. Skylar Holgate, Silverton Mountain Guide and Chris Harrell, an old time Durango friend and business man extrodanaire are my two partners on this venture. Our concept is to eventually have a backcountry ski area complete with multiple cabins to stay overnight, snowcats for access, and snowmobiles to use once you are out there. There is also probably going to be some heli options for those with the cash. Off course when I say "Ski Area" it is not in the typical form. Our own personal interest will be looked out for first. Stay tuned for more to come.
It was low tide when we were in town for the Magazine story, but you wouldn't really be able to tell if you go pick up the September issue of SNOWBOARDER Magazine. A closer look at the Front Door Lines
This is the living room. Lots of finish work to be done. Some day we will have flat screen TV's powered by wind and solar.
4th of July picnic. We hadn't signed the papers yet, but we cruised up early to reconfirm why we needed this property.
This truck came with the property. I'm not going to lie. I'm a little scared to drive this thing down the road. Not sure the actual grade but it's steep as shit!

Who could this be?
This past winter I ran into Jared Slater in the Backcountry of Wyoming. I was trying to take photos of him smoking, but he wasn't having it. Kind of funny in my mind. I started just shooting auto focus from the hip as a joke and ended up with this shot. I just found it while editing my Jackson stuff from the year and felt like posting it. I like the anonymous feel. Opps, looks like I blew it.

Hells Canyon, Snake River
I just came out of a great 5 day raft trip down Hells Canyon of the Snake River. Instead of a high priced beach front vacation we opted for a more adventureous working holiday. We put my new (to me) boat to the test and old Barney passed with flying colors. Hells Canyon is truly the Grand Canyon of the north, as it's actually the deepest Canyon in North America, beating out the Grand Canyon in Arizona by about 1000 feet. Something I didn't know prior to this trip. Amazing scenery. Amazing food. Fresh trout and bass. PBR. Just some of the good life the river has to offer.
Pushing off. Steve with Pretty Keene.
The first big rapid of the day. All the note worthy rapids are encountered on the first day. 1 of about 5. I think this photo makes it look pretty small but I can assure you it is big and pushy, and will definitely take you out if you're not cautious.
Rapid 2. Caryn and I swam the whole thing. Not quite on purpose. We opted for a more difficult route river right and got swamped out of the boat. Definitely a "good" near drowning experience.
Camp site numero uno. No need for a rain fly. Sleeping under the stars. We ended up staying here two nights because we were so exhausted.Hor 'dourvs to be served shortly

The iPhone camera and apps
After reading Cole Barash's and Chase Jarvis' blog yesterday I got a bit excited to shoot more photos with my iPhone. I never really messed around with all the apps that are available, and I must say 5 minutes later and $8 broker, I was way impressed and hooked. Messing around with all the many features available to edit photos right on the iPhone I ended up with this image within the first few minutes. I thought it made a cool stamp and was definitely a direct influence of the new NEW YORKER cover, which was taken with an iPhone and then manipulated with one of the many apps. I'm excited to use my iPhone in this manner much more in the future. For now, step back into time. Or at least that is how this image makes me feel. It was actually taken at the REI parking lot in Denver two weeks ago.

Editing Blues
What can I say. I hate editing photos. I hate being on the computer. It's probably sunny and beautiful out right now, but I wouldn't know because I'm stuck in my dungeon editing away. When I edit, I get distracted very easily. Whether it be the internet, an e-mail, the TV or even a bathroom break, I find my self doing anything BUT editing. This double exposure is a classic example of how my mind wanders when I edit. One second I'm actually editing in Lightroom and the next I'm creating this double exposure in Photoshop. I just can't stay focused, especially when it gets to this time of the year and I'm just over winter. I'd rather be out and about in the mountains or on the river in the desert. Well this double exposure is the best of both worlds and must have been what I was day dreaming about while trying to get through the last of my photos from this past winter. Enjoy!

Time flies when your having fun.....
Or that is how the old saying goes at least. Fun or not the last month has flown by. Team shoots, heli's and grom is all I've know for the past month. Great times at each and every shoot. Its been good to be back in Colorado for almost a solid month now too. That never happens! Well Spring is officially here. almost 60 degrees one day, and snowing the next. This is what I have to look forward to in Colorado all the way through May. Anyways....
This is a Photo I took while cruising around in the heli shooting the kids at "The Launch" event in Keystone, CO. I love the moody feel of the light and the lone car on the highway.

Hope to have some more updates from the last month up soon. If not, I hope to at least be able to get my blog on a bit more with current affairs. Stay tuned.....

Spring Broke '09
Just spent a week in an RV touring the southwest in search of snow. Well, we actually found quite a bit everywhere. Most of the resorts we visited had over a 50" base, and in the desert in March thats not too shabby. We also found a lot of sun and even some fresh powder too. Not to mention sheer ice, where we took going sideways to a new level. Anyways, departing Salt lake City UT, Brian Head was the first stop and it didn't let us down. Some sick logs and tree jibs, fences to ollie, and a park to boot. Next, was Las Vegas Ski and Snowboarder Resort 45 miles west of Vegas. Yes, you can be snowboarding at a real mountain in less than an hour from the strip. Seems kind of crazy but it too was no let down. Defiently give this one a look if your in the Veags area in the Winter. Their park was good, there's crazy steep lines with cliffs and chutes within hiking range and they stay open until mid April. Next on to the Snowbowl in Flagstaff AZ. We had really nice weather up until hear and it was still good the day we rode Snowbowl, but it didn't soften up quite enough to really get anything done. Its to bad too cause there's some sick shit there. As quickly as I write this blog we were off to our next stop in Taos NM. A long haul. The whole trip was a long haul. Drive, shed and sleep. Mix in the occational gas station burrito and some beer, and that was life. Literally wake up and shred all day. Try and seek out a feature, get a shot maybe two. At most three. BBQ, then peel out to the next spot. Drive until we get there (usually 11pm or as late as 4am), hang out, sleep and repeat. With minimal sleep, white knuckles, showing up at an unknown resort, only having one day to shoot, dealing with spring conditions, trying to find a feature worth shooting and getting it done can be a major challenge, especially with no help from the resort other than lift tickets. Now a days, a park shoot consist of setting the shoot up with the Resort months in advance, the features being built, and you show up and shoot. Have catered meals. Its so easy. Most park shoots are like that these days at least. Anyways, back to the story. Flagstaff to Taos is a long Haul. From resort to resort its about 500 miles. So we showed up at like 4 in the morning. Woke up late. Found a sick feature. We were go listed, then no listed. Wasted our day. Tried to party. No listed again. Do you like how I'm writing in 2 to 3 word sentences? I do. Anyways, the next day was super cold and everything was bullet-proof. Struggled for shots. Attempted some sketchy/dangerous things that should not have even been considered. Reinvented "going sideways", and once again left for the next spot. Frustrated. Wolf Creek prove to be the saving grace. It snowed over a foot the day and night before and it was on. Some cliffs were sent and pow was had by all. After Wolf Creek a camping night in the desert of Moab was planned, but due to some rather volitile weather and the fact that the RV we rented was falling apart, we declined to risk it. It was back to Salt lake, and out of the RV. Another mellow 9 hour drive and another 3 am bedtime. Really it was just more of the usual. Stoked to be done. I had an awesome Spring Broke!

On the road again....again
One day at home and I already got the itch to get back out there. I love life on the road. Not just traveling, but literally life on the road. I actually hate to fly. Not because I'm scared of it or anything, I just hate the hassle of it all. Security checks. Lost luggage. The list goes on and on. I also love the American Southwest. It has always intrigued me. All the warm and cool colors, old abandoned junk and of course the open road. There is nothing like it anywhere else in the world. I happened upon this old train just as the sun was going down and the light was just what any photographer looks for. I pulled over for a pit stop to remind me why I love both the American Southwest and the open road that runs through it.

Getting the job done
Two 4am wake up calls, 6 hours of sleep in 48 hours, one busted ass sled = one of the best trips I have been on this year. The last two days have been brutal. Up at 4am, out in the backcountry till almost 7pm or later. Long days to say the least, but the shots have been worth it. On the first day, within the first hour, Kramer's sleds' brakes went out and he crashed into a big tree at the bottom of a big hill. The recoil on the starter went out in the crash as well as the right side trailing arm. No big deal. Kramer clutch start, while wheeler works the gas.

On the road again....
After almost a week at home finishing up some work for Vail resorts it was time to hit the road again. And what better spot to go.....again, but Jackson, WY. I love this place.

This is what happens when the roads are super slushy, but the temperture is well below freezing. How that happens I don't know but somehow it does.

Clints Photo Show, Ordering info
I currently have a photo show at "Clints Bakery and Coffee House" in Breckenridge, Colorado (131 S. Main Street). Since my website is still not anything more than a home page, I wanted to list the photos here with all the ordering info.
Each and every photograph is printed on a matte adhesive Vinyl, then laminated with a matte laminate, and then mounted on 1/2" foam board. Because each print is laminated it is very, very resistant to scratches, dust, moisture, etc., and is fully archival for decades to come. My goal was to create art that was both very durable and archival, at a fraction of the cost. I also wanted each photo in this show to in some way be connected with Colorado, whether it be the rider or location.
Any print can be ordered in any of the following sizes for the following amount:
8"x12" $18
12"x18" $36
16"x24" $60
24"x36" $110
28"x42" $150
36"x54" $190
FED EX delivery is available for an additional fee. Local (Breckenridge, CO) pick up available free. Custom Printing to suite your needs is also available.
To order please e-mail me the print name and size desired. I prefer to use paypal when ever shipping, but a check will be accepted. Allow 2-6 weeks for delivery.
E-mail orders and questions to: aaron@aarondoddsphoto.com

Utarded in Utah
It was Utarded in Utah today

A socked in weather pattern all day meant there would be no
shooting today. At least it's snowing again. A washed up crew
of industry insiders took full advantage of this "down day"

My Buddies.....

My Buddies, my buddies.......my buddies and me.
So basically I drove 400 miles for nothing. I'm in Utah and the snow sucks. But what? To my surprise my favorite sales team was also in town making the rounds. Funny, because I caught Kyle and Fields here last year too. Ahhh, good old Heber City. Gotta love it.....

New Sled

Somewhat against my will I'm now riding an '08 Ski Doo 800 146 track. Totaled the '07 in Silverton about two weeks ago. First day out ripping the new sled today with my buddy Jon. Good snow, but after colliding with a rock at 30mph and being wipped off in an "America's Wildest Video's" fashion two weeks ago, I'm a bit more warry of what lays beneath the snow. I just wish someone got the shot.

Gun Safety Course in Silverton Colorado
Dirksen, Otterstrad, T-bird and the rest of the crew learn some gun basics. However, I just learned to watch out when Marius had a gun in his hand. Here's some un-edited video clips.
Clints Photo Show

Come check out photos by Aaron Dodds at Clint's Bakery and Coffee House, 131 S. Main Street, Breckenridge, Colorado. We already had the opening party but I'm planning a closing party right around closing day for the ski area (mid to late April). Stay tuned, and in the mean time go check it out and maybe even pick one up. Prices start at $18. Everything is custom printed so you can get any print in any size. They are then mounted on 1/2" foam board.
